HOM: RIP, My Friend

Don Salo, the orneriest veneer lathe operator in the world. ----- Donald Salo, 71 Donald Salo, 71, "departed to be with the Lord" on June 27, 2009. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed. Don was born March 18, 1938, to Esther Maisel and Benjamin Salo in Wakefield, Mich. He grew up and spent his childhood in Libby. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1954. Upon discharge, he then spent a great deal of time working in the timber industry as a sawyer, as well as for C&C Plywood of Kalispell, and, later, other numerous jobs. In October 1965, he married Audrey Jahnke of Kalispell, and together they had five children. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as poker and other card games. He also spent much time reading Western novels and watching Western movies. Don was known to be feisty and always with a joke to tell. His sense of humor brought a smile to many faces, and we will miss his laugh. We celebrate with joy in our hearts to know that in spring 2009, Don accepted the Lord as his Savior. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Salo; mother and stepfather, Esther and Frank LaCount; brother, Richard Wade; infant son, Joseph Salo; and infant grandchild, Frances HueKhang. He is survived by son, Benjamin Salo, and wife, Shaunda, of Kalispell; son, Frank Salo, of Missoula; daughter, Tena Racki, and husband, Josh, of Great Falls; daughter, Brenda HueKhang, and husband, Michael, of Kalispell; son, Donald Miller, of Utah; and daughter, Debbie Miller, of Eureka; as well as numerous grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by his dear friend, Norma Rivera, and her family, of Kalispell. At his request, there were no services. The spreading of ashes will take place at a later date. Don's children wish to thank the Brendan House aides and nurses for taking such wonderful care of our dad. We also especially wish to thank Richard and Diane of Buffalo Hill Funeral Home for the genuine concern shown for Don's care and our grieving. TBC (Me) (Blacktail Books)
