From Max Baucus

I got on a Democrat mailing list (Know thine enemy!) and so received this email:
---------
Hello Friends! Over the course of the last hundred years, there have been several defining pieces of legislation that have helped shape our society and have benefited millions of people. Now, after nearly two year of hard work, families, individuals and small businesses will remember 2010 as the year health care reform was passed and we delivered a huge victory for Montanans and people across the nation. This legislation will benefit people across the spectrum. After holding dozens of hearings and listening sessions across the state, and talking with thousands of Montanans, this health care bill will ensure quality, affordable health care for hundreds of thousands of Montanans and millions of Americans. From small business owners who will now receive tax credits to help them provide employees with health care benefits to seniors who will no longer have to decide between paying for a trip to the grocery store and this month’s prescription, this is one of the most important and beneficial pieces of legislation ever passed. Health care reform for Montana and for America means: • Small Business Tax Credits • Reducing the Federal Deficit • Preventing Insurance Company Discrimination • Helping Seniors With Prescription Drugs And Strengthening Medicare • Tax Credits For Individuals I’ve had the distinct honor and privilege of serving the people of Montana for more than 30 years. During that time we have accomplished so much, but nothing has compared to this -- this legislation will benefit just about every person in our state, it will cut our federal deficit by more than $130 billion in the first ten years and it will be a corner stone for generations to build on. Working together, we have created a more affordable, effective health care system for ourselves and for generations to come. Thank you for helping me and my colleagues build a brighter, healthier future for all Montanans and all Americans. Max Baucus (Me)

The only thing about this post that bothered me was your use of the term "enemy". There are no good guys or bad guys here. Just like folks had to deal w/8 years of Dubya, this is how it works. Approx. half the country - give or take another third - will not like what's going on at any given time. This is the gov't we chose, right? We WANT this republic, correct? And all our God-given... oh, sorry, CONSTITUTIONAL rights that come with it, yes? Occasionally I fight the urge to tell the current moaners the same thing everyone who moaned about the previous administration was told - If you don't like it, feel free to leave the country.

In time, the pendulum will swing back to the conservative, "small gov't, personal freedoms*" side and half the country will once again be unhappy. Whee!

*Personal Freedom(tm) does not include women's rights over choices involving their own bodies, as they are merely chattel. Also does not include the rights of homosexuals to marry, date, breathe, or exist, as they are abominations against humanity. Also does not cover the rights of the general population to live in peace without being spied upon via wiretap, internet, nosy neighbor, or nondescript persons sitting in an unmarked van across the street with a directional microphone and a recording device, because WE OWN YOU and your Personal Freedoms(tm). Please read the fine print for further information.

Umm, the "Know thine enemies" quote was a tongue-in-cheek partial misquote of Sun Tzu: “Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.”

Sorry for the literary reference. :P

BTw, you might like the Tea Party movement:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/35094.html
Face Of The Tea Party Is Female. “Many of the tea party’s most influential grass-roots and national leaders are women, and a new poll released this week by Quinnipiac University suggests that women might make up a majority of the movement as well.” This is no surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention.

I know the quote, and I figured you'd comment on that. But still, the sentiment of 'us against them' is bothersome to me.

Also, there is no way in hell I could be part of the Tea Party thing. If I want to be called a teabagger, I'll go back to playing ET. ;D

But - "No way in Hell" sounds like an "us against them" stance???

:P

Reload ET, come play on Bunker!

Hah, my refusal had nothing to do w/the politics, and everything to do with teabagging. :D

I keep thinking about playing again, but it seems every time I fire up the game, the servers w/my friends won't run properly for me. I may give it another try, just for you. :)
