HOM: A Story From The Past

A neighbor and his wife were hunting up in the Eureka area, and he dropped her off to hunt while he went on to a different spot where he would leave the car. She planned on meeting him at the car later. She finished her unsuccessful hunt and was hiking back down the road through some farmland when Nature called, loudly & insistently. No trees, no bushes, no TP & no privacy, but there was a bridge ahead that was both fairly wide and fairly high. It seemed like an obvious and ideally secluded spot for what she need to do, so she trotted over to it, slid down the bank, and headed for the shadiest spot -- and the buck that had elected to bed under the bridge, probably having chosen it for the same qualities she did, nearly trampled her as it fled . . . Yes, it scared her. Yes, that badly. And yes, suddenly there was a lot of traffic on the road, and a number of Good Samaritans offering her rides, which she declined with a very embarrassed smile from a very discrete distance. And yes, her husband thought it was MUCH funnier than she did. TBC (Me) (Blacktail Books)
