Political Note

After listening to Obama's talk of change and seeing him re-creating a Clinton Whitehouse, after watching Sarah Palin get trashed in the media, after looking around and seeing no possible candidate in either party I like, and after realizing I have never voted "for" a candidate on the national level in my life, I realized I was a "Libertarian" at heart. Libertarianism is a term used by a broad spectrum of political philosophies which prioritize individual liberty and seek to minimize or even abolish the state. The extent to which government is necessary, if at all, is evaluated from a variety of distinct metaphysical, epistemological, and moral grounds. The word libertarian is an antonym of authoritarian. Funny. Bill Clinton made me care about politics. At 21, I voted. At 22, I was in Vietnam, where I got to watch Good Ole Lyndon (Dem) play war games with real people & real blood. I swore I'd never vote again because the whole system was too messed up. Then Clinton ran, and everything I read made me think he was the most corrupt politician this country ever produced. I registered just to vote against him. Then I voted against Al Gore. (and let's not even talk of John Kerry. My feelings about him and his lies are personal and intense) I think Obama is going to shove us further into Socialism and a government that is involved in every aspect of our lives on a level we've never seen before. I hope I'm wrong. If I am, I'll apologize and probably vote for him in 2012. If I'm right, I probably won't be able to say "I told you so!" (Me) (Home)

And what, exactly, did you read to make you think that about Clinton? Websites run by the opposing party or sympathizers to said opposition? And corrupt, how exactly? I hate to say this, but Clinton was one of the greatest presidents we've had in our country's history, did loads for the country, making us prosperous and respected in the world. I'll put money that in 20 years, the history books will reflect that. Once everyone has moved away from the issues of his personal life and remembers the rest of what he did as president, that is.

And for pete's sake, could you be a bit more extremist, Mr. Doomsayer? REPENT, SINNERS! THE WORLD WILL END DUE TO OBAMA! Yeah, he's crap. But after the absolute train wreck of the Bush administration (speaking of playing games with real lives and real blood... and he's a Republican!), there's not much farther down we can fall.

And you can't tell me you're not appreciating having gas under $2 per gallon. :P

I'll bring over your pie probably Thursday sometime - lemme know when you'll be home! <3

well, after 16 years, I don't recall titles, but there were a lot of pretty well documented books on his reign as governor which seemed to cover a lot of "good ole boy" politics.

I read more than websites - I read history books too. :P

One thing his presidency did was trim down the intelligence services way back, which probably led to the the bad info after 9/11 & the WMD debacle. He did trim the CIA, etc; whether it affected 9/11 is hard to say, but logic indicates it did.

Um, LBJ sat in the White House and picked and chose targets for U.S, forces on a day-by-day basis. Bush left it to the generals. It is a lot different. LBJ's silly "rules" got a lot of good people killed for nothing.

And we ARE accomplishing something in Iraq, if you read more than CNN & BoingBoing.

Talk to some Iraq vets. Bush has a high approval rating with the troops, LBJ was hated.

Cheap gas. Economic sites seem pretty cohesive in saying the tight credit put the futures speculators out of business and brought the oil prices down, one good side of the economy crash. Little too soon for Obama to have had any effect, don't you think?

Please leave the Rat Poison out of the Pie. :)

I seem to recall the first month of when Mr. C was in office, some one cited how he had turned the economy toward the better. I also seem to recall he did not even implement the economic plan he had in his cabinet yet, but credit was given, and taken. I also have read (and not in newspapers, or on the internet) about his time in office. To be honest, I didn't like him personally, or his predecessor, or the ones who followed him. Why? Anyone who runs for public office is in it for power, specifically over the country I live in and served (that includes you as well). that makes them something of an egomaniac to start. couple that with personal behavior (any person you so choose), and it will go down hill from there. To further dig on this, Mr. C implemented N.A.F.T.A. and G.A.T. (?) neither of which he read! Couple that with the health care plan his other half came up with. I am thankful it failed too, as I have had H.M.O.care(not to mention she was still very low on the proverbial radar at that point, and as yet unelected, talk about law making by proxy). He also downsized our military. Care to guess how I know that? If I look back a while longer, like say to the 70's there was some one else who did that, by the name of Carter. Brilliant man, horrible politician. As for the current Elect, he has much less experience in public office than is needed. Less than his opponents did (I did not vote for either and not for lack of experience). He is a very good speaker too, but I try not to let public speech cloud my vision (it is bad enough already). Then there is the series of facts involving his private life, from religion, to behavior during our pledge of allegiance. both of which are frightening, and he will soon be sitting in the chair of office of the leader of this country with that mantle on his shoulders (is he faithless in our country, but faithful in other ways needing not be mentioned?). I say this specifically, as he is not in office yet. Now back to the current duck. Gas prices dropped, while he is still in office, why is he not getting the credit? As for how he is letting the soldiers be led in Iraq, I am for it. Why? he is a politician, and knows it. He leaves the decisions to the qualified ones who are skilled in running the armed forces, the generals. Unlike doctors, those guys don't practice war, they wage it. They also do it to the best of their abilities, as for each mistake, they realize lives can and will be lost. Their officers are also the ones who have to write letters back home to the families when they make mistakes. A task I will never envy.
You might also ask what have we done in the middle east that matters? If you have never met someone who believes they will go to heaven for killing, and dying while doing it, be thankful. I am speaking of some of the "extremists" which we hear of posthumously in our media. They are driven to do something abhorrent, for a promise they have no way of knowing will be kept. I have no problem with faith, but do have a problem with some one who would encourage that kind of sacrifice. Those (the Mullahs, and others encouraging that behavior) are the real targets, and several have been removed, permanently. They will not continue to be a debt/threat the public(specifically those who live there, or elsewhere) has to pay for while they rot in prison. As long as those who would encourage that behavior are continuing to do so, our G.I.'s will continue to do a good job. They are fighting one type of army that does not wear a uniform, and comes in all shapes and sizes. Their job is the toughest one you could ever imagine, and then some. I would also say, can we fall further? Yes, we can, look anywhere else in the world for the rights we have, the ability to exercise them, and the life of luxury we lead. Look at what has been promised, and you will see, yes, we can fall, a lot further than we have.
Sorry about ranting, but the statement I met here got under my skin.
I hope you 2 had a good thanksgiving, and the pies were all good. I will try to stop in some time in the coming weeks, assuming you will still talk to me after this.
Vic
