PolOpinions

Something I don't do a lot of here. First, a thought of mine. I keep hearing the Democrats refer to "Swiftboating" in the context of an underhanded lying attack. BS! Kerry got nailed by the truth. "Unfit For Command" details Kerry's war record. My old C.O. endorsed the book - look for Cmdr. Bennett - his name is in the back. Bennett operated with Kerry's swift boat. Kerry got caught lying, but the politician's twisted this into an epithet. Well, maybe getting caught in a lie is a curse to a pol? "Swiftboating": Publishing the truth. Book Cover ------------------------------- Next, these insights are from Instapundit, which is probably one of the most respected political blogs. Glenn Reynolds - musician, lawyer, teacher, writer, takes a position slightly to the right of center. "I'm interested in everything, but my chief interest is in the intersection between advanced technologies and individual liberty. The vast majority of my writing touches on this in one way or another." His blog is updated periodically all day. Personal liberty & advanced tech. Two things I believe in. Anyway, here are a couple of excerpts from his blog: ILYA SOMIN: "For what it's worth, I like the idea of a black president, believe that Obama is an admirable person in many ways, and have doubts about McCain's temperament similar to those expressed by George Will. Nonetheless, I fear that the conjunction of an Obama victory, a strongly Democratic Congress, and a major economic crisis will produce a massive and difficult to reverse expansion of government. . . . We know from past history that economic crises are a major opportunity for expansion of government power. Robert Higgs' book Crisis and Leviathan is a good discussion of the basic dynamics. We also know that divided government tends to impede the growth of the state, while united government facilitates it. The combination of united government and a major economic crisis is likely to lead to a great expansion of government, just as it did on several previous occasions such as the 1930s." THOUGHTS ON AMERICA'S INCREASING ideological segregation. I'll just add that in an America where government is increasingly powerful, it would make sense for people to want to be surrounded by people who share similar views, as a matter of self-protection.
